- Final Thoughts — Should You Build Your Resume Using ResumeCompanion?
After reading this review of ResumeCompanion, you will have a clearer idea and know for sure if you should build your next resume using the platform.
So, let’s get started.
ResumeCompanion was founded in 2009 with the goal to provide the best resources possible to help guide job seekers through every step of their job search.
They are also a sponsor of Resumes for America™ which is a non-profit initiative supporting America’s students and veterans.
They have also partnered with over 80 universities such as the Central Connecticut State University to help thousands of students create top-notch resumes and cover letters.
They exclusively hired top-tier resume and career experts to fulfill their vision of helping as many people as possible gain employment, and achieve career success.
Building a Resume with ResumeCompanion
On the ResumeCompanion homepage, you can click on the ‘Build a Resume in Minutes’ button to get started.
You will be redirected to the resume builder where you will first select a template. There are 16 templates to choose from:
- Taj Mahal.
After choosing a template, ResumeCompanion will ask you some questions. I’m guessing this will help personalize the resume you will be making.
The questions are basic and easy to answer. It asks details such as your work experience and education.
You can answer with a simple click. If you clicked on the wrong button, you can just go back to the page using your browser’s ‘Back’ button.
The questions have then focused more on education. I like that they’re taking a detail one at a time because it makes things feel easy and not all-over-the-place.
Some pages also have some tips and guidelines on the right side.
Filling out the fields is like filling out a very simple application form, and I feel no stress at all.
There are also questions that you can opt to skip if you don’t wish to answer them.
However, answering these questions will help make your resume look more interesting compared to some.
The left side of the page contains the different sections you need to fill out.
On the bottom left corner of the page, there is also a progress bar that shows how complete your resume is.
Once you have filled out all the details of your education, you can either add another school (if you’ve been to other schools), edit the details of your education, or continue to the next section.
The ‘Certifications’ section is where you showcase any licenses or certifications that you may have that are related to the job you are applying for. If you have none, you can skip this part.
After that, we move on to fill out your work experiences.
ResumeCompanion will start with your most recent work experience.
There are also dropdowns that contain options on some fields that you will fill out.
You can add pre-written bullet points based on your job title, or write it from scratch. I will be using pre-written bullet points for this review.
A search bar will pop out for you to look up your job title. Not all the job titles are available, so I suggest you use keywords that are close to your job title.
You can select as many as you want, but ResumeCompanion will advise you to choose 3-6 bullets that best describe your job.
You can still personalize a bullet point by clicking on the ‘edit’ icon. If you wish to remove it, you can click on the ‘trash can’ icon.
You can click on the ‘Continue’ button to add another work experience.
To add another work experience, click the ‘Add Company’ button. If you don’t have anymore, you can click on the ‘Continue’ button.
The ‘Skills’ section is where you highlight any talent or skill that is relevant to the job you are applying for.
After that, the rest of the sections seem optional because you will be asked if you want to add them or not. ResumeCompanion highly recommends adding it.
ResumeCompanion makes filling out this field easy by providing categories containing different pre-written career objectives.
There is a dropdown in most fields with different options to choose from.
To create the pre-written template for your career objective, different questions will be asked.
You will be asked about your soft skills. Soft skills are skills that use emotional intelligence.
You will also be asked how you perceive yourself and how others perceive you.
Once you have answered all the questions, a pre-written career objective will be made and you can personalize it further.
If you’re satisfied with how it looks, simply click the ‘Continue’ button.
You can opt to include any references as well. If not, you can proceed to the final section where you can personalize and finish your resume.
If you have filled out all the fields, you can click on the ‘Finish My Resume’ button. Here you get an overview of how your resume looks.
You can also still choose a different template, or make further changes to your resume by clicking the ‘Edit Resume’ button.
If you’re satisfied with how your resume looks, you can click on the ‘Download’ button. But before your resume can be downloaded, you have to sign up and subscribe to a pro package.
Signing up is made easy because you can register using your Facebook or Google account, or use a different email.
Building a Cover Letter with ResumeCompanion
I have stressed in my other articles how important a cover letter is to a resume. ResumeCompanion also has a cover letter builder.
You can click on the ‘Build a Cover Letter in Minutes’ button to get started.
ResumeCompanion will be asking a few questions to help personalize your cover letter. You can begin by clicking the ‘Start Now’ button.
There are 3 steps to creating a cover letter builder with ResumeCompanion:
- Tell us about yourself.
- Personalize your letter.
The first step requires you to answer multiple questions to help create a pre-written body content of your letter.
The questions are mostly about your work experience, education, and personality.
Some fields will allow you to skip if you don’t want to share any particular information.
There’s also a progress bar to inform you how complete your cover letter is.
Some dropdowns will give you a list of options to choose from.
The questions are easy to answer because they are relatively the same to the questions found on the ResumeCompanion resume builder.
ResumeCompanion will also help explain your work gap/s if you have any.
The questions are straight forward, and there were no issues while filling up.
Once you have answered all the questions, you will get the chance to personalize your cover letter further.
Here you can make further edits to your letter. You also get an overview of how your cover letter looks like.
After that, you can edit the contents of the body of your letter by clicking on the ‘Edit’ button. Simply click on the ‘Save’ button to save the content after.
Once you are satisfied, you can click the ‘Proceed to Download’ button but you have to subscribe to a Pro Package first (which we will discuss in the next section of this article).

ResumeCompanion Resume Builder Reviews
Sitejabber has 26 reviews which gave ResumeCompanion a 2-star rating out of 5 stars. Most of the reviews were focused on the pricing model which they felt wasn’t clear.
I believe they improved that by making sure to put a cancellation guarantee on their pricing model.
Final Thoughts — Should You Build Your Resume Using ResumeCompanion?
Making a resume using ResumeCompanion has been easy and convenient. It didn’t take too much time, and the best part is that you don’t have to create too much content on your resume because they will make it for you.
